Élisabeth-Louise Vigee-Le Brun, född 16 april 1755 i Paris, död 30 mars 1842 i Louveciennes, 20 kilometer väster om Paris, var en fransk målare som i huvudsak målade porträtt. Vigee-Lebrun utförde tilldragande, idealiserande porträtt och var för en tid hovmålare hos drottning Marie Antoinette. Vigee-Lebrun var tvungen att lämna Frankrike pågrund av den franska revolutionen 1789 och efter det var hon verksam i Ryssland, Italien och Storbritannien. Efter att Napoleons kommit till makten återvände hon till Frankrike. Hon besökte Schweiz 1807 där hon i Geneve blev invald som hedersmedlem i Societe pour l'Avancement des Beaux-Arts. Vigee-Le Brun lämnade ett arv av 660 porträttmålningar och 200 landskapsmålningar. Pieter Claesz
Dutch 1597-1660 Pieter Claesz Locations Dutch painter of German birth. He apparently spent his entire career in Haarlem, where he specialized in still-life paintings. Well over 100 works survive, dating from 1621 to 1660. Most of his pictures are dated and monogrammed PC. Since those initials were shared by the Antwerp still-life painter CLARA PEETERS, several attributions are disputed.
Hirshfield Morris
American artist 1872-1946 American painter of Russian-Polish origin. He claimed to have carved wooden ceremonial objects as a young boy, but ceased to create until he retired from his clothing manufacturing concern and began to paint. When Sidney Janis was arranging an exhibition of American folk art for MOMA in 1939, he saw Hirshfield's naive works in a gallery in New York. He exhibited two in the show and organized a one-man show for the artist in 1943; he also purchased two works, including Beach Girl (1937; New York, MOMA). In such paintings Hirshfield based large areas of the overall design on the fabrics with which he worked during his years in business, and his outlined forms on the art of patternmaking.
Henri van Assche
born at Brussels in 1774, showed from his earliest years a predilection for painting, and received from his father, who was a distinguished amateur artist, the first principles of design and perspective. He was afterwards placed with Deroy of Brussels, from whom he received further instructions in painting. Journeys in Switzerland and Italy contributed to develop his talent as a landscape painter. His great partiality for representing waterfalls, mountain streams, and mills gained for him the name of 'The Painter of Waterfalls.' Several pictures by him may be seen in public and private collections of Brussels, Ghent, Lille, and Haarlem, some of which are enriched with figures and animals by Ommeganck. He died at Brussels in 1841.
